Steven Platts is Chief Scientist for NASA’s Human Research Program at Johnson Space Center, leading efforts to protect astronaut health during space exploration. With expertise in physiology and space medicine, he directs research to mitigate risks of long-duration missions, including cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and behavioral challenges. Steven fosters collaboration across disciplines to develop practical countermeasures and ensure alignment with NASA’s goals for ISS, Artemis, and future Mars missions. He has authored numerous publications, presented globally, and shaped research priorities that advance human performance in extreme environments.
