About ASCEND

What does ASCEND Mean?

ASCEND is an acronym that stands for “Accelerating Space Commerce, Exploration, and New Discovery.” The name captures our ambition to empower space professionals and organizations to drive the space economy forward together.

ASCEND is built to convene space professionals and organizations from every discipline and industry to collaborate across sectors, align strategies, and accelerate progress across the full space value chain.

ASCEND brings together attendees from across the global space ecosystem, including:

  • engineering
  • private enterprise
  • startups
  • investors
  • civil space
  • national security
  • academia
  • research
  • space sciences
  • media
  • emerging technology
  • policy

How is ASCEND different from other conferences?

ASCEND is a multidisciplinary, action-oriented event designed to connect ideas to execution across the full space ecosystem. Conversations at ASCEND do not end in the room. The program is designed to drive follow-on action, including white papers, recommendations, and other tangible outputs that extend discussions beyond the event and inform decision-making across the space community.

Grounded in AIAA’s commitment to technical excellence, ASCEND delivers high-quality content that combines peer-reviewed technical sessions with panels, keynotes from senior leaders, hands-on workshops, industry roundtables, and mentoring sessions for students and early-career professionals. This diverse set of formats fosters meaningful dialogue, practical outcomes, and cross-generational engagement.

What is new for ASCEND 2026?

A new home in Washington, D.C.: ASCEND 2026 moves to Washington, D.C., placing the event at the center of U.S. and international space policy, government decision-making, and strategic engagement.

A fully stand-alone space event: ASCEND 2026 is fully decoupled from aviation programming, allowing for a sharper, space-focused agenda that reflects the maturity and breadth of today’s space ecosystem.

Expanded strategic partnerships and ecosystem reach: New and expanded partnerships with organizations including Commercial Space Federation (CSF), The Aerospace Corporation, BryceTech, ISS National Laboratory, Novaspace, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Space Force Association (SFA), and Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), bring high-quality curated content and broader participation across civil, commercial, and national security space communities.

New experiences and community events: ASCEND 2026 introduces new events and experiences designed to foster deeper connection and cross-sector dialogue, including a Classified Space Event hosted by The Aerospace Corporation, convening cleared government and industry leaders for focused discussion on national security space priorities.

D.C. Space Week: ASCEND 2026 serves as an anchor for a broader D.C. Space Week, catalyzing coordinated programming, partner events, and community engagement across the region to create a focal point for the global space community.

How is content being developed for ASCEND?

ASCEND 2026 content is shaped by key trends across the space sector, open Calls for Content for sessions and technical papers, strategic guidance from the ASCEND Guiding Coalition, and close collaboration with content partners, ensuring a program that reflects both community input and real-world priorities.
