Laurie Labra

Vice President, Science and Space Human Exploration

Laurie Labra leads a diverse team of more than 2,500 employees, generating over $500 million in annual revenue and delivering world-class research, engineering and technology development, information systems, human health and performance, operations and mission solutions. The Human Exploration Division (HED) portfolio includes the Integrated Mission Operations Contract (IMOC III), Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC), Extravehicular Activity Space Operations Contract (ESOC) and Human Health Performance Contract 2 (HHPC 2) at Johnson Space Center (JSC), collectively valued at more than $5.4 billion. HED is critical to NASA’s human spaceflight operations, supporting mission planning, training and execution of all human spaceflight missions. HED plays a key role in commercial human spaceflight and private astronaut training.

Prior to her current role, Labra served as a program manager for both the IMOC II and MSOC. She oversaw the $1.3 billion IMOC II contract and a workforce of more than 700, leading schedule, cost and technical performance for round-the-clock ISS operations. Under her leadership, the IMOC II program delivered efficient business methodologies that drove strong technical performance and excellent award-fee scores.

She also led the $1.13 billion MSOC contract and its 500-person workforce, supporting Mission Control, the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility and training systems for all human exploration activities, including the ISS and exploration missions. During her tenure, KBR secured the IMOC III contract, valued at up to $1.9 billion and the $2.469 billion HHPC 2 award.

Labra began her career in 1988 as an astronaut instructor for the Space Shuttle Program and has held leadership roles with increasing levels of responsibility She led multiple contract transitions at JSC and other NASA centers and guided the organization through the Space Shuttle transition and retirement.
A Houston-area native, Labra holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Houston. Her accolades include the NASA Silvery Snoopy Award, NASA Star Award and the SGT President’s Award. She is active in STEM outreach and serves on the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership Board of Directors.
