Dr. Sandy Magnus is a former NASA astronaut and aerospace executive who currently serves as Principal of AstroPlanetview LLC, where she provides consulting services to the aerospace industry. With a Ph.D. in materials engineering, Magnus brings more than 16 years of NASA experience, including International Space Station missions and executive leadership roles, to her technical and strategic advisory work.
Selected as a NASA astronaut in 1996, Magnus flew on Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2002 and Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2011, the final Space Shuttle mission. She also served as flight engineer and science officer on Expedition 18 from 2008 to 2009, spending more than four months aboard the International Space Station. In addition, she served as Deputy Chief of the Astronaut Office.
Magnus was Executive Director of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) from 2012 to 2019. She later served as Deputy Director for Engineering in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2019 to 2020.
Earlier in her career, Magnus worked in stealth engineering on the U.S. Navy’s McDonnell Douglas A-12 Avenger II program. She is also a recipient of the NASA Distinguished Service Medal.
