Shirley Dyke
Donald A. and Patricia A. Coates Professor of Innovation in Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University
Shirley J. Dyke is the Donald A. and Patricia A. Coates Professor of Innovation in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, with a joint appointment in Civil Engineering. She leads research in structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and smart infrastructure monitoring, and directs both the Resilient ExtraTerrestrial Habitats Institute (RETHi) and the Intelligent Infrastructure Systems Laboratory.
Dyke earned her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
In 2024, Dyke was appointed Coates Professor of Innovation, with positions in both Purdue’s School of Mechanical Engineering and the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering. She is the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) and the NSF CAREER Award.
