Thomas L. Wilson
Vice President and General Manager, Northrop Grumman
Tom Wilson is the Vice President and General Manager of Strategic Space Systems division for Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector, a premier provider of space and launch systems serving national security, civil and commercial customers.
In this role, Wilson leads the division which provides strategic space solutions including national security, military and civil space end-to-end systems, protected and advanced mission communications, space science and exploration, space domain awareness, protection, resilience and rapid prototyping and directed energy.
Prior to this appointment, he served as sector vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Space Systems, responsible for the development and execution of the sector-wide strategy, including developing future mission solutions for customers and integrating sector modeling, simulation and analysis. He was also responsible for leading the sector’s overall growth plans and customer engagement. Previously, Mr. Wilson served as the Vice President of Business Development for Innovation Systems sector with similar leadership responsibilities.
Wilson is also the President of SpaceLogistics LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman, chartered with developing the on-orbit satellite servicing market including the development of a first of a kind autonomous robotic servicing vehicle. Wilson is responsible for all aspects of profit and loss execution and customer engagement.
Prior to the acquisition of Orbital ATK by Northrop Grumman, Wilson served as Orbital ATK’s Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Space Systems Group. He also served as the Vice President and General Manager of the Civil and Defense division for the Orbital ATK Space Systems Group.
Earlier, Wilson served as Vice President and General Manager of the Space Systems division at ATK Aerospace Group. In this capacity, he was responsible for the overall management of a team of employees in Maryland, California, Virginia and Texas. He was also the Vice President of Strategy, Business Development and Advanced Systems for the Space Systems Group at ATK where he was responsible for managing and coordinating business development and acquisition strategies, and aligning group capabilities with customer requirements.
Wilson has held key management positions at Swales Aerospace, including Vice President, Corporate Development and Vice President, Space Systems Programs. He has more than 15 years of government experience with the Department of Defense, where he was the Staff Director for the Congressional Commission to Assess U.S. National Security Space Management and Organization and has held several positions within the Office of the Secretary of Defense and with the Naval Center for Space Technology at the Naval Research Laboratory.
Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland.
