ASCEND attendee Kristi Morgansen, Professor and Chair at the University of Washington – William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics, is seeking an experience driven by outcomes

Why I am going to ASCEND

I am going attend ASCEND to connect with the entire space ecosystem.  Most conferences are simply panelists sharing their expertise. ASCEND has a worldclass experience design team building an intentional program that I think will be very powerful, not only in the short term for learning and network, but for long term advancements in space through explicit outcomes.

Who I want to meet

For starters, I’m hoping to connect with people that can utilize the research and tools produced at the University of Washington’s Space Policy and Resarch Center to have a greater impact on the work that they are doing. I’m interested in the next generation of aerospace.

In my perspective, if we want aerospace to be as impactful as other fields, like computer science, we need to be able to share what we’re doing with leaders in adjacent markets, and work together. For example, as we work to create sustainable environments in space, that work is transferable to sustainable environments on Earth and all stakeholders from all industries who care about human civilization and quality of life.

Two of my former PhD students work for the Institute for Disease Modeling, and they’re very busy using the tools we teach them on guidance, navigation and control to track disease and perform epidemiological studies, because it’s the same kind of systems level thinking.

There are many connections to be made between industries at ASCEND, and I’m open to the possibilities.

What I  hope to achieve

As a professor, I hope ASCEND helps support workforce development, by engaging young men and women. That organizational achievement would be satisfying personally.

From the conversations and learnings at ASCEND, I plan to share those insights with my students, who can in turn contribute to technological advancements and the advancement of the aerospace industry.

Share your dreams of tomorrow

Your entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, technical innovations, and passion for aerospace play an important role in both advancing life on earth and building our off-world civilization. Like Kristi, we invite you to share your vision for what that future will look like and how we’ll get there.
